I would play hide-and-seek using the whistle only. Remember, whistle
when you first come home, feed, play fetch and anything else that
is associated with fun.
Whistle while Oscar chases you around the house all the time you
are tooting. Every time he catches you, quickly change directions
and continue this game for no longer than three minutes.
Pick a melody that will become your personal calling card. When
he starts to jump and nip at you because his enthusiasm is getting
the best of him, stop and stomp your feet in disgust.
When he withdraws from you, lower your body and soothe him back
to you using a very soft, kind voice. Tell him what a good boy he
is and build his confidence back up. Let him come to you as you
kneel down and do not reach for him.
Whistle and continue the game. The sound of the whistle will become
your motivator and now you are ready for the game of hide-and-seek.
This game is a wonderful way to communicate to your puppy to come
to you.
Huskies can be very unfocused meaning they can only focus on one
thing at a time. This is why you must become his primary motivator
and not food. He may not be very hungry and then you will be out
of luck. This is also why it is a good time to play this game around
meal time using his own food as you hide and whistle.
Be sure to play this game for a week in the house. If things go
well take the game outside, of course in a safe environment, and
hide behind trees or any other obstacle which will render you invisible.
This act of adding stress by lowering his sense of security will
bond him to you. He will realize he needs you and he should pay
attention to you because you could disappear.
Always have fun and use good common sense while paying close attention
to his temperament. If you lower his confidence always bring it
back up.
Everyday, I want you to hold him in your arms cradling him like
a baby. It is very important that he feels vulnerable because he
cannot escape-no matter how hard he struggles. Hold him for five
minutes at a time. Repeat this twice a day. When he learns to settle
in your arms the biting and nipping will diminish. Stretching a
puppy out is very helpful, also.
I hope you find this very useful and successful. Please, keep me
informed with your progress or frustration.
